map Merrybent Hill Farm is in the area covered by Ordnance Survey Landranger map 98 - Wensleydale & Upper Wharfedale and on Explorer map OL41 - Forest of Bowland. Explorer maps are best for walking, horse riding and off-road cycling as they are more detailed (4 cm to 1 km) with footpaths, rights of way, open access land and even the vegetation.
From Slaidburn turn north at the War Memorial in the centre of the village taking the road signposted for Bentham. Continue on this road for 2 miles passing the signpost for Stocks Reservoir on your right. Ignore satnav instructions as satnav tends to deliver you to the wrong place!! Continue on the same road for approx another 1.5 miles, climbing steadily all the while. At the top of the hill and about 50 yards before a cattle grid you will see the house sign on your right by a wall at the entrance to the track to the house. Turn in here. The gate may be closed as we need to keep sheep out of the garden but just please open it and come down the track to the house.
If you are coming from the north, take the Slaidburn road from the centre of Bentham and follow this road for about 9 miles up and over the moorland, dropping down to a stone bridge. Climb up the other side after the bridge and pass the entrance to two farms, one on the right and one on the left, then climb a short steep stretch of road and at the top you will see the house sign on your left. Turn in here. The gate may be closed as we need to keep sheep out of the garden but just please open it and come down the track to the house.
